I live in the City of Kawartha Lakes, just north of Toronto, Ontario. I am a road and mountain bike enthusiast and have established the Team Steffie Foundation in memory of my sister, Stefanie Ann Fiorini-Kinley, who passed away in 2010.
The Team Steffie Foundation has one primary focus... to drive awareness and momentum for organized community groups who strive to develop avenues and leadership for today's youth.
We believe this endeavour follows the wish of my late sister, Stefanie Ann Fiorini-Kinley who had a strong belief in children having the best “avenues” available to them as they go through life towards adulthood.
Over the past few years Team Steffie participated in several events which have been organized and sponsored by third party groups. Such events include, the Becel Ride for Heart and Stroke in Toronto, the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer in Quebec, the Ride to Conquer Cancer in Toronto, the Run Walk Ride for Mom in Calgary, the 7-day BC Bike Race and the Steffie’s Run in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.
In stepping out of our comfort zone, instead of simply participating in already organized events, Team Steffie announced its "Avenues For Kids Project". This Project has empowered The Team Steffie Foundation’s Board of Directors to undertake its own initiatives in creating events and directing the funds to community groups at a more regional level.
Some of our Targeted Community Groups and Programs are:
Theatre Arts Bursary Programs for Post Secondary Continuing Education
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada
Big Brothers and Sisters of Canada
In September of 2011, through the Avenues for Kids Project, Team Steffie initiated a 3-day road cycle tour from Lindsay, Ontario to Mont Tremblant, Quebec. The event is called “Velo Tremblant” and by the end of the 3 day trip funds in the amount of $12,000 were raised and presented to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada.
In the wake of the 2011 and 2012 Velo Tremblant successes Team Steffie and the Avenues for Kids Project have planned to make the Velo Tremblant tour an annual event. Our 2013 version is already a huge success with respect to more rider participation and more corporate sponsorships such as The Oxford Group, Fairmont Hotels and some other, more local corporations like Reeds Insurance, Cable Cable Inc, Polito Ford and the Olympia Restaurant.
